Terminology for Craps

Before the craps game familiarize with the most frequent terms which can appear in the craps game and puzzle you when you play for the first time. The knowledge of these terms may meliorate your playing talents.

Any Craps - betting that number 2, 3 or 12 occurs on the next dice shot. The payout is 7 to 1.

Any Seven - betting that a 7 comes out on the next dice throw. The payout of bet is 4/1.

Big 6 or Big 8 - betting that a 6 or 8 occurs before 7 on the next dice roll. The payoff is 1-to-1.

Big Red Bet -bet that any 7 is thrown in the next dice shot.

Buy Bets - the bets that give the opportunity to bet that a 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8 falls out with the next dice roll earlier than 7 (after the Come Out roll). Every gambler is charged 5% commission on these bets whether if the bet is winning or is just placed.

Come Box - the betting zone of the craps table for Come wagers.

Come Bet - bet that the dice will pass on the next dice throw.

Come Out Roll - the first dice shot in the dice game. Come out roll indicates the “point” for Pass or Don't pass bets.

Crap or Craps - the numbers 2, 3, and 12 that established the name of the dice game.

Dealer - the man who operates on the craps table. Usually two dealers run the game the craps table.

Don't Come Bet - betting that the dice will not pass in the next dice throw after the first roll.

Don't Pass Line - the betting section on the table for Don’t Pass wagers.

Don't Pass Bet - betting that a 2 or 3 is rolled with the first roll. Don't Pass bet will win if a 7 comes up earlier than the point.

Field Bet - bet that number 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 will come up on the next dice throw. The payout for 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 is 1-to-1, for 2 and 12 the payoff is 2-to-1.

Hard Way - bet that "hard" (the same numbers coming out on both dice) 4, 6, 8, 10 appears on the next shot before a "soft" 4, 6, 8 or 10 or a 7 falls out.

Horn Bet - bet that number 2, 3, 11, or 12 falls out in the next shot.

Lay Bet - the bets that give the chance to bet that a 7 comes up before 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8. Each player is to pay 5% commission on lay bets.

Pass or Pass-Line Bet - bet that number 7 or 11 will come up in the next shot or a point is thrown before a 7. Pass Line bet is made before the Come Out roll. When number 2, 3, or 12 comes out or number 7 occurs earlier than the point number the bet happens to be losing.

Place Bets - bets that allow to make bet on place 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. These bets happen to win if one place number is thrown on the dice before a 7.

Point - number 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 that is rolled in the Come Out roll.

Right Bettor - the player who places bet on the Pass Line.

Shooter - the player who shoots the dice.

Stickman - casino employee which carries out the dice roll and is responsible for proposition bets.

Vig or Vigorish - the commission taken for definite bets.

Wrong Bettor - the craps player which wagers on the Don't Pass Line.
